Salvatore’s life began amidst nineteen seventeen within the Massachusetts city of Boston. As the nineteen thirties passed he was educated in Maine and subsequently joined the US Army during nineteen forty-two. Following his wartime assignments Vitale studied at George Washington University and joined the Central Intelligence Agency by the end of the nineteen forties. He served much of the nineteen fifties at Agency headquarters but was assigned to intelligence operations in Greece as the decade ended.

Vitale served as an operations officer as the nineteen sixties began and would be among those supporting Cuban agents for the subsequent Bay of Pigs. The same decade he was a member of Task Force W focusing on plots to overthrow the Cuban government under the command of William Harvey. Amid nineteen sixty-three Calvin Hicks was his supervisor at Langley headquarters and four years later he was still coordinating paramilitary operations with JMWAVE Station in Miami. In the course of nineteen sixty-nine Guy Vitale retired as an operational support assistant for paramilitary operations regarding Cuba and Latin America. He later received a commendation from Director of Central Intelligence Richard Helms for two decades of service.
